The reasoning behind the more than 5000 successful start-ups originating from Israel is the amount they spend on research and development.

Israel spend 4.3% of their GDP (Gross Domestic Product) on R&D, this is more than any other country in the world. There is no surprise then, that since 1999, an average of 640 start-ups a year have popped up in Israel.

A large driver for the spend in R&D in Israel has been the countries many university’s such as, Ben Gurion University, Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
